Cleanroom Cleaning —Massachusetts

Massachusetts is the life sciences capital of the world. Nowhere else on earth concentrates more biotech companies, research universities, federally funded biosafety laboratories, and advanced manufacturing infrastructure per square mile. CleanTech Systems has served this ecosystem for 30 years — from Cambridge to the New Hampshire border, from the Seaport to the South Shore, from cleanroom cleaning MA to facility & cleanroom cleaning throughout Massachusetts and in every corridor in between.

The Massachusetts Controlled Environment Landscape

No state on earth produces more life sciencethan Massachusetts.

The numbers are unambiguous. Massachusetts employs more than 143,000 people in the life sciences — the highest per-capita concentration of life scientists of any U.S. state, and nearly 13% of all U.S. life sciences R&D roles are concentrated in the Boston-Cambridge metro alone. In 2025, Massachusetts companies captured 26.2% of all U.S. biopharma venture capital. The Commonwealth’s biopharma pipeline grew nearly 14% year over year — more than double the national rate. No other state commands this combination of research infrastructure, commercial manufacturing depth, and capital concentration. California competes on volume. New Jersey on legacy pharma. Massachusetts competes — and wins — on scientific depth.

That depth is structural, not cyclical. It is rooted in an academic research infrastructure that no other state can replicate: Harvard, MIT, Boston University, Tufts, Northeastern, UMass Amherst, Boston College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and more than 100 other colleges and universities, generating a research-to-commercialization pipeline that has been running without interruption since the 1970s. MIT.nano, the Lisa T. Su Building at the center of MIT’s campus, is one of the largest academic nanofabrication facilities in the world — two floors of ISO-classified cleanrooms producing next-generation semiconductor, photonic, and bioelectronic devices. Harvard’s Center for Nanoscale Systems (CNS) operates nanofabrication cleanrooms serving researchers across disciplines at both its Cambridge and Allston campuses. UMass Amherst’s Nanofabrication Cleanroom, housed in the Silvio O. Conte National Center for Polymer Research, extends the Commonwealth’s nanoscale manufacturing research capacity into western Massachusetts, offering sub-10 nanometer patterning capability to academic and industry researchers alike. These are not teaching labs. They are production-grade controlled environments generating the foundational science that becomes tomorrow’s commercial products.

Boston University’s National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories (NEIDL) occupies a class of its own. Built with a $128 million NIH grant and housed in a 192,000 sq. ft. facility on BU’s Medical Campus in the South End, the NEIDL is one of only two university-sited BSL-4 maximum containment laboratories in the United States — the other is at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. BSL-4 is the highest biosafety classification in existence, reserved for pathogens with no known treatment or vaccine: Ebola, Marburg, Lassa fever, and others. The cleanrooms inside the NEIDL don’t just manage contamination risk — they contain existential biological threat. The contamination control standards at a BSL-4 facility represent the absolute outer boundary of what controlled-environment cleaning demands. Massachusetts is one of two states in the nation that hosts this level of biocontainment infrastructure.

Massachusetts's Anchor Facilities
Pharmaceutical / Rare Disease Biologics
Takeda — 300 Shire Way, Lexington
Takeda's Lexington biomanufacturing campus produces four commercial biologics for patients with rare diseases — Hunter Syndrome, Fabry Disease, Type 1 Gaucher Disease, and Hereditary Angioedema — under some of the most rigorous FDA GMP manufacturing oversight in the Commonwealth.
Semiconductor / Mixed-Signal ICs
Analog Devices — 1 Analog Way, Wilmington
Global semiconductor company headquartered in Wilmington — the longest-standing major manufacturer in the town — designing, manufacturing, and testing high-performance analog, mixed-signal, and digital signal processing ICs for industrial, automotive, communications, and healthcare markets worldwide.
Pharmaceutical / R&D & Specialty Care
Sanofi — Cambridge Crossing, 450 Water Street, Cambridge
Sanofi's 900,000 sq. ft. LEED Gold campus at Cambridge Crossing consolidates 2,500 Massachusetts employees across R&D, Medical, and Specialty Care — one of the company's largest U.S. sites. Why CleanTech Systems

Built for Massachusetts'scontrolled environments.

Built in Massachusetts. Only in Massachusetts.
CleanTech Systems was founded in Danvers in 1996 and has operated exclusively in New England for 30 years. We are not a national janitorial company that added a life science division. We are a cleanroom company that grew up inside the Massachusetts life science ecosystem — account by account, audit by audit, corridor by corridor.
ISO 14644-5 standard editor. On every account.
When the ISO Technical Committee wrote the international standard governing cleanroom cleaning operations, CleanTech Systems' principal was one of the editors. That expertise doesn't sit on a shelf. It informs how our technicians are trained, how our protocols are written, and how our quality systems are built. No other cleanroom cleaning company operating in Massachusetts — national or regional — brings this credential.
The hardest environments in the world. Zero citations.
Massachusetts' FDA district office oversees some of the most heavily audited pharmaceutical and medical device facilities on earth. CleanTech Systems has maintained a zero 483 citation record across 30 years of service in those environments. That record was earned in this state, in these facilities, under this regulatory oversight. It doesn't transfer — it compounds.
